Three Colorado cities earned spots on WalletHub’s annual “Best & Worst Places to Raise a Family” study. This study looked at 150 of the most populated cities in the nation. Five categories were used to determine rankings:
Family Fun – playgrounds, parks and recreation, percentage of families with children and commuting times
Health & Safety – water & air quality, medical facilities available, infant mortality rates and crime rates
Education and Child Care – graduation rates, school districts, child care quality, family leave policies
Affordability – cost of living & housing expenses
Socioeconomic environment – divorce rates, families living at or below the poverty line, unemployment rates
Denver came in at #62. Scoring high for family fun and education, Denver’s scores were middle of the road for health & safety and affordability.
Denver’s neighbor to the south, Colorado Springs also made the list, coming in at #30. The city also scored relatively high for education and childcare and affordability and socioeconomic environment.

Aurora landed 131 overall, with average rankings for family fun, health & safety and affordability. However, Aurora did receive high scores for education & child care coming and socioeconomic environment.
